This is an interesting book that offers an alternative to the basic static stretching that most runners do. Facilitated stretching involves contracting the target muscle, without allowing any movement, followed by a stretch. The instructions given in the book are very easy to follow and I tried out most of the stretches relevant to running. You can either get someone to help you with the stretches (this would be a "facilitated stretch", or you can perform the stretch yourself. Once you have mastered the simple technique you can use the principles to stretch just about any muscle group.
I think the method seems to work well and will carry on using it, particularly on muscles that are a bit tight due to old injuries.
