LocationNear Wymondham, Norfolk
HabitatRoadside grass verge.
NotesProbably about two weeks old. You can clearly see the stipe has a pointed base and has a dark purple colour. The ground was very dry and I managed to extract the stipe in one piece. Often the stipe is firmly rooted in the ground and more often than not it breaks if you try to pull it out.

4b Boletus queletii 19Jul03 /2a (69kB JPEG) Date/Ref19 July 2003 /2a (69kB JPEG)
NotesTop view of cap. It has lost its original orangey colour.
4c Boletus queletii 19Jul03 /3a (8kB JPEG) Date/Ref19 July 2003 /3a (8kB JPEG)
NotesThe colour of the stipe flesh is very similar to that of cooked beetroot and is a very good indicator for this species.
