These are some pictures of fungi mostly from around the Hethersett area in Norfolk. If the combination of finding something interesting, having my camera with me and having time to upload the pictures occurs simultaneously then I'll add some more. If you have any comments or questions about the pictures send me an email.

7 August 2003
In the past week I've found Boletus erythropus at three locations. Two of these sites
are new to me, the third is the same as a site from last year. At the latter site
one sporophore had the distinctive brown and black cap, however the stipe appeared
to be mostly yellow and lacking the usual pinky red colour. I've added a picture of a
mature specimen from one of the other sites to the B. erythropus page.
The hard to identify but ubiquitous small brown xerocomus are along just about every road verge I've looked at around Hethersett. Most have the carrot coloured spots in the base of the stipe and cap colours from buff to brown, often with a red flush as well. I think these are mostly X. communis, or part of that group. (Follow the link above for a selection of pictures.)
25 July 2003
I had a good look round some of the local sites that are usually good last
Saturday (19 July). I found a scattering of what were probably Xerocomus communis,
possibly one X. porosporous, one small Boletus radicans, one Boletus luridus
and two Boletus queletii. Without exception they were all very old. Considering the
specimens I found on 10th July my guess is that there was a single growth period
at the beginning of July when this small number of sporophores all appeared.
I've added some pictures to the B. queletii page.
14 July
Found my first boletes of the year on Thursday 10th July in Little Melton.
These are probably the very common Xerocomus communis. There were also lots of
Suillus granulatus in Earlham Park.
